ナパグリーンは、土地の利用やワイン生産において、ワイン産業で最も包括的な“最高の実践方法”です。ナパヴァレー・ヴィントナーズ（以下略してNVV）が開発したこの自主的参加のプログラムは、ナパ郡のワイナリーと葡萄栽培農家を対象とし、20以上の地域、州、連邦政府の規定する最高の基準に見合った、もしくは基準を超えた環境的に安全で、持続可能な実践の普及に力を注いでいます。このプログラムは第三者認定機関によって認定されます。ナパ郡のヴィントナーズは、ワイナリーごとに考案され、ワイナリーの生産施設運営や畑の栽培方法に焦点を合わせたプログラムに参加しています。このプログラムは、環境基準を満たし、または、基準以上に厳しく対応し、さらには持続的に地域全体の環境を守り、環境の質を高める為にワイナリーごとに考案されています。ナパグリーンの認定においては、ワイナリー、またはランド（土地）のいずれかのカテゴリーでプログラムに参加することができます。
ナパグリーン・ランド認定
ナパグリーン・ランド認定プログラムは、ナパ郡の地域の河川流域を修復、保護、強化したいと願うワイナリーや栽培農家を対象に、第三者機関によって認定される自主的参加のプログラムです。このプログラムには葡萄畑はもとより、栽培の行われていない土地や道路、土手、排水溝、場合によって、その敷地内の特別な場所も含まれます。各土地所有者に合った計画が細かく立てられ、野生動物の棲息場所の修復、健全な川岸の環境作り、持続可能な農法が推進されます。
現在、およそ10,800ヘクタールの土地がプログラムに参加し、5200ヘクタールが認定され、さらに多くの土地が正式な認定を待っています。ナパ川流域のほとんど（90％）は個人に所有され、公と私がナパグリーンでパートナーシップを結ぶことは、地域社会にとって極めて重要です。認定は 地方自治体の担当部門や政府環境保全団体（Fish Friendly Farming, National Marine Fisheries Service, the Napa County Department of Agriculture’s Department of Pesticide Regulation, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board)のパートナーシップで行われています。
ナパグリーン・ワイナリー認定
2007年に設立されたナパグリーン・ワイナリー認定プログラムは、ナパ郡の環境管理部門の協力(DEM)とNVVが協力して、開発されました。これは、ABAG(ベイエリアの自治体から構成される協会:Association of Bay Area Governments)が進めるグリーンビジネス・プログラムを模範としています。 DEMは、その長年にわたる一定した高い信頼性と、成果の素晴らしさには定評があります。 ABAGのワイナリー専門のチェックリストは、全ての法的基準を包括し、それらの基準に見合う以上の総合的な形式にまとめられているため、ナパグリーン・ワイナリーの認定方法としてアップデートされ、適用されました。チェックリストには、水やエネルギーの節約、環境汚染防止、ゴミ削減といった項目が含まれています。プログラムの参加申し込みは、数が、限定されているため、ワイナリーは必要な指導や配慮を受けることができます。また、DEMも検査や認定を監督することができます。ABAGのプログラムは、カリフォルニア州の基準となるように作られています。一旦、プログラムが完了すると、ワイナリーは、DEMとABAGによる 第三者認定機関から認定を受けます。 |
