Versant Vineyards crafted a one-of-a-kind wine for Premiere Napa Valley 2009 Lot Description:
Pritchard Hill has become recognized as an extraordinary area for producing fine Cabernet. Versant Vineyards is relatively young— planted in 1998 with the first vintage in 2000—and has evolved and become more complex each year. 2006 was a very good growing year and the vintage is our best yet. Deep ruby red, with tiers of currant, blackberry, black cherry and plum fruit, and a long finish that shows mineral and tobacco notes.

Viader Vineyards & Winery

Cases: 5
Varietal: Petit Verdot
Vintage: 2007
Release Date: January - 2010
Appellation: Napa Valley

Lot Number: 42

Viader Vineyards & Winery crafted a one-of-a-kind wine for Premiere Napa Valley 2009 Lot Description:
Arrrr! VIADER will knock off yer peg leg with Petit Verdot – our Pirate V!—showing VIADER's proven quality terroir and winemaking. This lesser-known "noble grape" of Bordeaux had a rather "ignoble" history. It was the preferred elixir of high sea pirates! Duelin' Delia Viader compares her swash-bucklin' with Petit Verdot winemaking to walking the plank. This "Pirate V" is the ultimate treasure! Struggling to survive the tumultuous vineyard seas of Cabernet, these grapes sail in to steal the show. The most complex, intense yet elegant "Pirate blend" you will ever taste… Ahoy mateys! This is the booty.

The St. Helena Special. Our Premiere Napa Valley 2009 blend is a one of a kind, and all about Cabernet from the St. Helena Appellation. We begin with selections from the top barrels from our own estates, the gently sloping hillside Vineyard 29 vineyard and cobblestone-rich Aida Vineyard. Vineyard 29's silky black fruit fuses with Aida's seductively lush and intensely spiced fruit to begin this amazing Cabernet. To further enhance this striking wine, we have blended samplings from the top lots of our Cru vineyards within St. Helena, bringing deep red fruit and firm tannins from tiny, concentrated berries to this amazing blend. Our 2009 Premiere Napa Valley Cabernet blend showcases the brightest qualities of Cabernet from St. Helena. This wine will be in your collection for years and years to come!

von Strasser Winery

Cases: 5
Varietal: Petit Verdot
Vintage: 2007
Release Date: January - 2010
Appellation: Diamond Mountain District, Napa Valley

Lot Number: 120

von Strasser Winery crafted a one-of-a-kind wine for Premiere Napa Valley 2009 Lot Description:
The genesis for this wine came from my introduction to the Petit Verdot grape while an intern at Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, and then my use of it at Newton Vineyard. During my three years at Newton, the winemaking team of John Kongsgaard, Dean Sylvester and I challenged ourselves each vintage to make an "ultra-wine": a single barrel of the most intense Bordeaux blend possible, regardless of the varietal percentages used. This barrel was never bottled, but was merely used as a barrel sample to show off to our winemaker friends. Without fail, each ultra-wine we made relied heavily on Petit Verdot. Of all the Bordeaux grapes, Petit Verdot has the darkest color, most intense aroma (imagine fresh blueberry syrup), and the most viscous mouth feel. When I bought my estate in 1990, my first course of action was to plant Petit Verdot, with the goal of making a Diamond Mountain "ultra wine." The result is a Premiere Napa Valley offering of 80% Petit Verdot and 20% Malbec all coming from the von Strasser estate vineyards.
