Experience Napa Valley - February 16-21, 2009
As part of Premiere Napa Valley week, the NVV hosted a dozen trade from the UK, Canada and Japan for a week-long "Experience Napa Valley" intensive. Here, the group begins with a Napa Valley overview, held at Duckhorn Vineyards.
As part of their intensive, trade members participated in numerous vintner-led tastings and workshops. Here, Margaret Duckhorn leads a panel on a discussion of valley floor appellations and wines.
In addition to tasting panels such as this one, Experience Napa Valley participants worked alongside a winemaker in the cellar for a morning, learned about some of the cutting-edge techniques used by Napa Valley vintners in the vineyard and cellar; dined with vintners; and more.
Chris Howell, Cain Vineyard & Winery; Paula Kornell, Oakville, Ranch Vineyards; and Elias Fernandez, Shafer Vineyards, lead a discussion and tasting of mountain and hillside appellation wines.

Vintage Perspective Tasting - Friday, February 20, 2009
The event, attended by more than 250 members of the trade, wine media and vintners, has become the kick-off event to Premiere Napa Valley.
Held in the Rudd Center at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, the Vintage Perspective Tasting gave attendees a snapshot of Napa Valley vintages past, present and future.
Vintage Perspective Tasting attendees sampled Cabernet from the 2004, 2005 and 2006 vintages, all of which were tasted blind.
Guests tasted three vintages of Cabernet--2004, 2005 and 2006--from 20 producers.

Premiere Napa Valley Barrel Tasting & Auction - Saturday, February 21, 2009

The barrel tasting at PNV provides trade and media with the opportunity to catch a valuable insider's snapshot of what's going on in Napa Valley.
Members of the wine trade and media made good use of the 2-1/2 hours they had during the barrel tasting portion of the day to meet and taste with the vintners who had donated lots to Premiere Napa Valley 2009.
Perhaps more important than the wine sold is the invaluable networking opportunity Premiere Napa Valley offers trade from across North America and around the world. Here, Ichizo and Seiichiro Nakagawa share a laugh with Barr Smith of Barlow Vineyards.
At the barrel tasting, a sell-out crowd checked out the 200 lots up for auction that afternoon.
The day's top bidder, Gary Fisch of Gary's Wine & Marketplace (Madison, NJ), with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars founder Warren Winiarski.
NVV board of directors members Bruce Cakebread (Cakebread Cellars), Paula Kornell (Oakville Ranch Vineyards) and Ed Matovcik (Beringer Vineyards) were on hand to welcome guests to Premiere Napa Valley.
